Economics Graduate & Indie Label Owner, Overlander Music

About this speaker

I'm a recent Economics (BSc) graduate from the University of East Anglia with a background in data analytics, academic research and the music industry. I've always been passionate about both data and music, and over the years, I've found ways to merge the two-whether that's through analysing trends in streaming numbers or handling the metadata side of independent releases and coordinating artist collaborations. I run Overlander Music, an indie record label and creative collective where I've managed artist releases, publishing, and metadata, ensuring tracks are formatted correctly for DSPs and tracking streaming and radio royalties. I've also worked on pitching music to radio stations and playlists, curating events, and using data to inform artist strategy, like reviewing engagement analytics to shape campaigns. On the data side, my degree has given me quantitative and analytical skills, with experience using Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros), R, and Stata to clean and interpret complex datasets. I've worked on econometric regressions, which ties into the kind of industry work I want to do: analysing trends, tracking income streams, and using data to support artists and labels in making informed decisions.
